Last January 4, 2013. BOSS (BMW Owners Society of Safe Riders) together with BMW Autohaus Libis had organized the Iron Man Challenge VIII. It is an Iron Man endurance challenge for drivers and motorcycle riders that has been running for 8 years. The challenge is to navigate the North Luzon national highways in 24 hours for a total of 1200+kms in their respective cars, trucks, SUVs, motorcycles or scooters. This year's starting point is at the Balintawak Home Depot, Quezon City and ends in Hotel Stotsenberg Clark, Pampanga via the North Luzon loop, passing through the towns of Pangasinan, La Union, Ilocos Sur, Ilocos Norte, Cagayan, Isabela, Nueva Vizcaya, Nueva Ecija, Tarlac, and the last stop, Pampanga.
The first car was flagged off at exactly 10:00pm, it is a Land Rover Defender 90. Followed by motorcycles at 11:00pm.
According to organizer, Mr. Teng Sorreta, this is an interesting year because there are interesting motorcycles and cars who joined for the first time.
The first car to finish was driven by restaurateur Elbert Cuenca in a sponsored BMW X1 1.8D. He was able to navigate the route for 12 hours and 17 minutes at an average speed of 100KPH. The first motorcycle rider to finish was Dr. Joey Almeda riding on a BMW R1200 GS Adventurer touring bike riding the route for 12 hours and 10 minutes. The awarding of the Iron Men will be on January 16, 2013 at the BMW Autohaus in Libis, Q.C.
"The event is not a race as we do not award medals, trophies, nor publish a list of finishers according to position or time. To successfully become a BOSS IronMan is a feat that money can't buy." - BOSS (BMW Owners Society of Safe Riders)
