The first time I encountered a Kia car was way back in 1991 at the SM North EDSA, I was 6 years old then, it was a red Kia Pride hatch. I find it cute, but my Uncle said to me that it was from Korea, and that car isn't good at all. KIA stands for Kill In Action. Since then I never wished for a Kia Pride. Fast forward to the present time, Kia together with its sister company the other H brand Hyundai was able to vastly improve their vehicle line-up. Now, my family owns a 2011 Kia Rio JB and it is in red. And my Uncle who said that Kia was a lemon now owns two Hyundais, a Getz and a Starex. The Kia Rio has done a lot for me, one of these is that my social circle has greatly expanded, I met people who treated me like family. You may find it hard to connect, but this is one of my personal testimonies to what Kia has been doing to their loyal customers now, this car company and their products treat us (their customers) with a "Family-Like Care" commitment.
In March 9, 2013, Columbian Autocar Corporation the exclusive distributor of Kia Motors in the Philippines, together with its local dealer Kia Global City of the Green Valley Auto Sales Corporation has organized the Kia Family Day. This is an event where Kia recognizes the value of family and of course, the value of their customers' beloved Kia cars.
Kia Motors gave free car check-ups to their customers' Kia. Kia models from 2009 and above got freebies for their cars. Oil filters, air filters, air-con filter and wiper blades were given away to Kia owners. The Kia models that were present that day are the Sportage, Sorento, Rio, Soul, Picanto, Carens, Forte, Optima, Cadenza, Mohave and the Carnival. Apart from that, Kia Global also have food stalls where the guests can eat for free and an activity area where customers and their kids play arcade games, take photos at the photobooth, and have their faces and bodies painted. Kia really showed their customers a "Family-like Care" by organizing these fun-filled activities.

In an interview with Bong Balangue, service manager of the Kia Global City, there were around 100 Kia owners who went to the Family Day that Saturday. Only few selected Kia dealerships will have a Kia Family Day this year and Green Valley Auto Sales Corp. was lucky to hold the event at their respective dealerships. Columbian Autocar Corporation also had a Kia Family Day at the Green Valley's Kia Fairview dealership in March 2, 2013 where Club Rio members Elvin Salunga, Zenith Morales, LA Fernando, Jamuyz Caranza and Kamir Lao have participated.
Other members of the Club Rio Philippines also attended the March 9 event. Rian Lapizar, one of the administrators of the Club Rio Philippines had his Kia Rio JB named Dos checked, and was lucky to have all the freebies. While Allan Chua, also got his beloved Kia Rio UB hatchback named Rufu a check-up. I, who is also a member of the Club Rio Philippines, also got my Kia Rio named Mariah checked. I am happy that it is still in its best condition even at 24500KMs.
Angela Aspiras of the sales department also accommodated me graciously, I will now be referring clients to Ms. Angela. She's my official sales contact at the Green Valley Auto Sales Corporation.
The most memorable part for me last Kia Family Day was that I got a chance to show my autocross video last 2012 Philippine Autocross Championship Series to Bong Balangue and Kia National Parts Manager Jun Mallari. They were surprised--and yes, because Kia has the Power To Surprise--that I was able to use the Kia Rio JB for local motorsports disciplines like Slalom and Autocross, and soon Hill Climb. I asked Jun if Columbian Autocar can support my vision to organize a local motorsports development program for Kia, and he gave me the contact no. of Kia marketing head Boying Soriano without hesitation. I hope it all goes well because I will propose to the Columbian Autocar Corporation my Kia Local Motorsports Development Program later this year. I also had a chat with the Green Valley Autosales President Chris Trajano while I am covering the Novice Drift Series later that day. Chris being a drifter and a motorsports fan also showed his support for my vision of Kia's Motorsports Development. We should all know that Kia is very active in the South American motorsports scene.
With all these happenings last Kia Family Day at the Kia Global City, Kia has once again showed us the "Family-Like Care" commitment they give to their customers. That's one of their "Power(s) to Surprise".
